They bought a shelter in New York with the aim of housing psychological illness victims and making them feel less lonely while undergoing the mental disorders. Today, Fountain House has been a success having renowned personnel in the medical sector like Dr. Nirav Shah recognizing them for helping change lives of people battling mental illness.
With the help of their able leadership and support from the board of directors, The Fountain house members work together to attain their set goals in both academics and employment, to boost each other’s confidence, develop long lasting friendships and acquire new skill sets. The members actively take part in areas targeted at improving their community like communication, culinary, memberships, and reception, education and horticulture. Besides providing shelter, the house has other programs like education, health and wellness and forums for young adults to encourage them not to give up on life.
The Fountain House has been instrumental in helping people affected with Mental illness basing on statistics generated from surveys carried out. For instance, only a third of people with a mental disorder in the general population finish school while 77% of Fountain house members complete their education.
When it comes to getting admitted in the hospital, unlike the general populace that has 50% rate of hospital admissions, Fountain house rates are as low as 10%. Also, Fountain has provided housing to 99% of its members while close to 22,800 mental illness victims in the general population are homeless.
To support this worthy cause, Jeremy Goldstein and two of his partners, Jim Finkel and Omar Khan organized an elaborate dinner with the aim of raising money for the foundation. The event held on May 22nd was among the best fundraisers organized in New York and took place in the Roof deck of the Nomad Hotel in New York City. The tickets were selling at $3700 and the returns would 100% be given to the Fountain House.
The philanthropic lawyer operates his law firm by the name Jeremy L. Goldstein & Associates LLC. He started off working with the largest Law Firm in New York City before opening his firm and has been actively involved with some large collaborative deals within the past decade like the Health Analytics acquisition by IBM.
Jeremy holds a doctorate in jurisprudence from the New York University School of law and has an M.A from Chicago University. Besides being on the Fountain house board, he is the chairman of the Mergers & Acquisition subcommittee that is a part of the American Bar Association Executive Committee in charge of compensation in the business section.
